Messages From the Future

I woke up Saturday morning and saw I had a missed call and voicemail from my bestest best friend, Jessica, who lives in Chicago. I knew that she and her boyfriend, Jesse, were going to Ikea, so when I began the vm and heard them talking about furniture it didn't strike me as strange. By the way, it was one of those accidental calls like she hit a button and i heard everything from her purse. But then, THEN, I heard Dylan! Dylan is Jessica's nephew and he's adorable and he's my favorite.

I was so jealous that Jessica didn't call and tell me she was with Dylan. Then I heard her mom and dad and I was like, EVERYONE'S visiting and she didn't tell me??

So I called her back and said, "I know you're with Dylan..."

"What? No I'm not."

"Yes, I know you're with him and your mom and dad at Ikea and you didn't even tell me they were coming to visit."

"What? No one is here. Jesse and I are on our way to Ikea right now."

"NO. They're with you. I heard you laugh about Zoe(her cat) and Dylan said he wanted a stool and that he needed coffee(he's only 4) and your mom told him to go find 'Pa-pa."

"Ashley, I have no idea what you're talking about....this really happened?"

"Yes! It was a message left on my phone."

"No, seriously, I have no idea what you're talking about..."

This goes on for a while longer before Jessica asks, "Which of my phone numbers called you?" I go and check, "Ummm, your old home phone number...."

"Yeah, that's my mom's new cell number"

And then, the world made sense. Dylan was with Jess' mom in Southern Illinois, SHE had accidentally called me.  I wasn't psychic. I did not receive a message from the future. And I was horribly horribly disappointed.

Tappity Tap Tap Tap

I am so inspired by so many things I see and read about, but when it comes to the actual work I'm.So.Out.Of.It. I hate being a lazy person. I want to cook amazing meals, and paint amazing furniture, and take amazing pictures. But I don't. I need someone to kick me in the butt and get me going. I'd love to take a class...in something...but I don't feel like doing the research or paying the money. OR having homework.

I just need to do it. Just do it.

Take the plunge.

Pick a project and go for it.

I think I will.

I think I'll think of something.

I'll let you know...

What's New?

I have officially moved on up to the Westside...for work that is. I now have a lovely 45 minute commute to and from the office everyday, but I'm not one to complain. Ha! Yes I am... I now have an adorable little cubicle in this big warehouse of a place that needs decorating...badly!

Speaking of decorating, it is the thing that fills my days. I spend hours online everyday searching for the perfect rug(which I found) or the perfect couch(which I bought!!) or the perfect ceramic elephant(which I hope exists.) I've become obsessed with making things pretty. ThisYoungHouse.com and Ree over at the Pioneer Woman fill my mornings with "pretty." It's sad. When I discovered Ree I spent 1 whole week reading every post ever written on that site. And yesterday, I had to physically stop myself from reading every post in the archives of TYH past last June.

I've always known how to put together an outfit, but the task of putting together a whole room was always overwhelmingly daunting to me. I used to buy things that went together whether I truly liked them or not...and I ended up hating everything. Now I buy only what I love and have to trust that somehow things will work. And they always do. My apartment is starting to fill up with pieces that truly make me happy, make me smile when I see them.

But still I wish there were a little more pink. Darn Boy!
